YEREVAN, February 25. /ARKA/. The Armenian government is going to exempt imports of cars from Russia and other members of the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU) by individuals from a 20 percent value-added-tax (VAT), international economic integration and reform minister Vache Gabrielyan said today.

Tatyana Valovaya, a senior member of the Eurasian Economic Commission, the bloc’s executive body, said earlier that Armenia should have abolished collection of VAT for such cars after its formal accession to the EEU in January.

According to her, the EEU treaty says that the EEU member states cannot use non-tariff protectionist barriers against each other.  “There was such a barrier for EEU car imports in Kazakhstan, but it eliminated it,” she said.

According to Gabrielyan, this problem was discussed with the president of Armenia and it was decided to change the current situation.

Earlier, Armenian deputy finance minister Armen Alaverdyan stated in response to Valovaya 's comments that the government would continue collecting 20 VAT taxes for cars imported from EEU 'for the benefit of the state budge and in accordance with the law." -0-
