The Armenian government has approved today a decision allowing the state-owned company "Hay-Almast" (Armenian Diamond) to purchase ingots for further resale of gold to Armenian jewelers.

YEREVAN, August 17. /ARKA/. The Armenian government has approved today a decision allowing the state-owned company "Hay-Almast" (Armenian Diamond) to purchase ingots for further resale of gold to Armenian jewelers.

The government said a set of inquiries revealed that Armenian banks sell 1 gram of gold to jewelers at 24,325 - 24,813 drams, or $61.6-$62.8, while in international markets the price is s $52.88.

The government said the decision is expected to enhance production and export of golden items, produced by local jewelers, to make more affordable the cost of raw materials and to create new jobs. -0-
