YEREVAN, January 24. /ARKA/. Armenia's National Assembly discussed today a set of amendments to the Law on Energy, which call for disclosing the names of the real owners of power plants.
Artak Manukyan, an MP from the ruling My Step parliamentary faction, who co-authored the amendments, said it was prompted by a similar bill on the mining industry.
"The rationale of our proposal is that hydroelectric and thermal power plants and all those bodies whose work is reflected in the electricity price should be transparent and accountable," he said.
Manukyan noted that information about owners holding at least 10% of the shares is subject to disclosure. He added that it is further proposed that discussions begin regarding the publication of information about all owners. If the draft law is adopted, the law will enter into force on July 1, 2020. -0-
