YEREVAN, December 11. /ARKA/. Babken Tunyan, the head of an Armenian parliament committee on economic issues from the parliamentary majority My Step alliance provided his comments today on the possibility of Armenia's participation in the "platform of six", which Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan proposed to create in the South Caucasus.
According to the media reports, Erdogan said that he and President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev discussed the possibility of creating a so-called "platform of six" for the development of cooperation in the region, which could include Azerbaijan, Turkey, Russia, Iran, Georgia and Armenia, in case it would like to join.
“If Armenia joins this process and takes positive steps, a new page in the Turkey-Armenia relations can open. If new opportunities arise, it is obvious that Armenia will also have a serious advantage. Armenia will be the side gaining most from it,” Erdogan said today during an official visit to Azerbaijan.
Asked by reporters whether Armenia could join the "platform of six" if it is created, Tunyan said that the country should proceed, first of all, from its own interests.
“I would like to remind that Armenia has been a member of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation Organization for many years, comprising 12 countries, including Turkey, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Ukraine, Russia and other countries. Armenia should give priority to its interests. If participation in any platform corresponds to these interests, then it should participate, if not, then it should not,” Tunyan said.
From September 27 to November 9, Azerbaijani armed forces, backed by Turkey and foreign mercenaries and terrorists, attacked Nagorno-Karabakh along the entire front line using rocket and artillery weapons, heavy armored vehicles, military aircraft and prohibited types of weapons such as cluster bombs and phosphorus weapons.
On November 9, the leaders of the Russia, Azerbaijan and Armenia signed a statement on the cessation of all hostilities in Artsakh. According to the document, the parties stopped at where they were at that time. The town of Shushi, the districts of Agdam, Kelbajar and Lachin are handed over to Azerbaijan, with the exception of a 5-kilometer corridor connecting Karabakh with Armenia.
A Russian peacekeeping contingent has been deployed along the contact line in Karabakh and along the Lachin corridor. Internally displaced persons and refugees are returning to Karabakh and adjacent regions, prisoners of war, hostages and other detained persons and bodies of the dead are being exchanged.--0-
