YEREVAN, September 27. /ARKA/. Armenian newspapers have presented several causes of the jam at Upper Lars border checkpoint, which is creating major troubles to Armenian entrepreneurs. Zhamanak reports referring to cargo transporters heading for Russia that the problem has emerged because of the weighting machine - its figures differ from the real weight.
"One of Armenian cargo transporters says this has been done to extract money from drivers," the daily writes. "According to him, the Russian side extort around $2 million from drivers, and not only Armenian, but also Azerbaijani, Turkish, Georgian and other countries' cargo transporters who cross the checkpoint."
Zhoghovurd paper, on its side, quoted Herbert Hambardzumyan, chairman of the International Transporters Association of Armenia, as saying that trucks remain trapped because of slow servicing.
