Armenian - Russian talks on gas supply scheme still underway
YEREVAN, June 4. /ARKA/. In an interview with the daily ‘Hraparak’ (Square) the chairman of Armenia’s Public Services Regulatory Commission (PSRC) Garegin Baghramyan reveals some details of the ongoing talks with the Russian Gazprom, which are supervised on the Armenian side by Deputy Prime Minister Mher Grigoryan.

Baghramyan refrained from talking about the specific demands of the parties, saying that the subject of the talks is a gas supply scheme until 2030, which includes also issues such as the volume of investments, the tariff policy and some others.

Speaking about the sources of investment, Baghramyan said Gazprom-Armenia, the national gas distribution company, can either raise funds from its parent company or use credit resources. He said the investments are to be channeled into bringing the entire gas transmission system of the country into proper shape and extending its service life. He added that the current price of Russian gas for Armenia is effective until the end of 2019.

On December 31, 2018 Russia's Gazprom raised the price of natural gas it ships to Armenia across Georgia from $150 per one thousand cubic meters to $165. In 2018, Gazprom supplied 1.94 billion cubic meters of gas to Armenia.

Although the Russian natural gas is delivered to Armenia by Gazprom at a $165 per one thousand cubic meters, Gazprom’s Armenian subsidiary - Gazprom Armenia - sells it to the bulk of Armenian households at almost $300. Gazprom Armenia also deals with the storage, distribution and sale of gas. -0--
