Armenian wine exports surge by 24.7% in first half

Armenian wine exports in the first six months of 2016 grew by 24.7% from the same time span of 2016 to 779,900 liters, according to the figures released by the Customs Service.

YEREVAN, September 6. / ARKA /. Armenian wine exports in the first six months of 2016 grew by 24.7% from the same time span of 2016 to 779,900 liters, according to the figures released by the Customs Service. The customs value of exported wine amounted to $2.5 million against $1.7 million in the same period of 2015.

The bulk of exports -604,200 liters, worth $1.8 million- went to the Russian Federation. The figure was up from 501,100 liters exported to the same country in the first six months of 2015, that was worth $.1.2 million.

According to the National Statistical Service (NSS), wine production in the country rose by almost 11% in the first six months year-on-year to about 3 million liters.

Also exports of  ethyl alcohol with proof no less than 80%, alcohol tinctures, liquors and other alcoholic drinks in the first half of 2016 amounted to 10 million liters with customs value of $71.5 million, up from 4.5 million liters in the first half of 2015(with customs value of $40.6 million). 

The bulk - 88% - went to the Russian Federation. Armenian brandy exports surged by 34.5% from the year before to about 8.7 million liters. 

In 2015, because of the sharp devaluation of the Russian ruble Armenian wine exports to Russia fell by 31.5% to 1.451. million liters, while exports of ethyl alcohol with proof no less than 80%, fell by 8.4%. - 0-
