YEREVAN, September 24. /ARKA/. The Armenian Wines festival kicked off today in the Russian capital city Moscow as part of a broader Armenian Wines program, Armenia's Ministry of Economy said. It said the event is hosted by the Armenian pavilion at the VDNKh exhibition center.

The event is a joint initiative of the Armenian Viticulture and Winemaking Foundation  and the Union of Sommeliers and Experts of Russia. The  goal is to promote Armenian wines in large cities of Russia through educational and marketing programs.

"Today is a significant day. The Armenian Viticulture and Winemaking Foundation and the Union of Sommeliers and Experts of Russia signed an agreement to promote Armenian wines in Russia. I am glad that we have the opportunity jointly and with the support of the state to promote Armenian wines in Russia," said the chairman of the Union of Sommeliers and Experts of Russia Artur Sargsyan.

Zaruhi Muradyan, Executive Director of the Armenian Winemaking and Viticulture Foundation, in turn, noted that Russia is the largest consumer of Armenian wines and, despite great competition, Armenian wines have great potential in the market.

"We decided to join forces with our Russian partners for the active development of this direction. For many years, Armenia was known in Russia mainly for its cognac. Our goal is to make Armenian high-quality wines  take their unique and worthy place in the Russian market," she said.

The program has several stages, the first of which will be a marketing strategy and promotion plan. In the next stage  programs on Armenian winemaking, history, local grape varieties and wine brands will be developed in the Russian language and an informational brochure "Armenia: Viticulture and Winemaking" will be published.

Within the framework of this program,  sommeliers and buyers, as well as Russian journalists and famous bloggers will visit Armenia. -0-
