Creation of agricultural cooperatives will help improve situation in Armenian winemaking
YEREVAN, October 9. / ARKA /. Creation of agricultural cooperatives will help improve the situation in Armenian winemaking, the head of the Union of Armenian Winemakers Avag Harutyunyan told reporters today.

"Winemaking in Armenia today is in a rather difficult situation. I believe that the situation can be changed by creation of state-owned cooperative enterprises", he said.

He said in the past many governments set up cooperative wineries, in which 100% belonged to the state. In the frist year the cooperative winery bought grapes from the farmers, thus demonstrating the presence of government guarantees, and later it sold part of shares to winegrowers.

"Creating a cooperative enterprise will cost Armenia $1.5-$2 million. In other words, by investing only $14 million the government will create cooperatives across the country", he said.-0-
