YEREVAN, February 7. /ARKA/. Media reports from the village of Akori in the northern region of Lori say local farmers saw their pigs die. The Food Safety Inspectorate said it was not informed about the death of animals.
It said acting on media reports, the agency's employees in the region visited the farmers to record that cattle, small cattle and pigs were kept in the same shed and in very poor conditions. On the first day of the visit, 22 dead pigs were discovered.
The Food Safety Inspectorate said as part of the supervisory measures, its employees took samples to clarify through lab analysis the cause of death. The community and the households were put under the control of the Inspectorate.
"In the period from January 27 to February 5, a total of 62 pigs died in the village. According to the results of laboratory studies, the death was caused by causative agents of anaerobic and coccal infections," the agency said.
It said the infected animals were buried, the farms isolated and disinfection measures were carried out in the burial site and in the shed. Samples of feed were also taken for examination. -0-
