YEREVAN, October 24. /ARKA/. Armenia's parliament has approved today in the second and final reading a set of amendments to the Labor Code, obliging employers in Yerevan to switch to non-cash payment of wages.
According to Gevork Papoyan, an MP from the ruling My Step faction, who authored the amendments, initially the changes were to apply to companies with 10 or more employees, however, due to technical problems, it was decided that this requirement would apply only to employers in the capital city Yerevan.
He said the amendments envisage also payment of an employee's wage in cash, if the latter wishes so. Papoyan said these amendments are based on international experience, which shows that in all technologically and economically developed countries, wages are paid 100% by means of bank transfers. The changes were endorsed by the government. -0-
