YEREVAN, January 29. /ARKA/. The European Union will increase the amount of financial assistance to Armenia, Johannes Hahn, EU Commissioner for Enlargement and Neighborhood Policy, said at a press conference today in Yerevan.
He said although negotiations on EU’s financial budget for 2021-2027 were still underway, there was no doubt that the financial assistance to the countries embraced by EU’s Neighborhood Policy would increase.
The Commissioner specified, in particular, that there is a budget item on special achievements in the fields of democracy and the rule of law, and this will be a source of additional finance for Armenia. He also recalled that EU-financed projects worth 300 million euros are underway in Armenia and another 100 million euros are on the way.
He said trough loans and grants, more than 800 million euros were invested in Armenia’s energy, water, agriculture and transport infrastructure.
According to Hahn, they are now working with the government to identify the areas that will receive further assistance. In particular, he emphasized an educational innovation package worth 23 million euros signed recently. -0-
