Examination reveals vegetable oil in five brands of sour cream
YEREVAN, April 8. /ARKA/. Acting on a string of mass media reports Armenia’s State Food Safety Service examined several brands of sour cream and revealed that some of them contained vegetable oil.
The State Food Safety Service said sour cream products of 16 companies, acquired from retailers in the capital city Yerevan were sent to a specialized lab for examination. According to the National Center for Veterinary, Sanitary and Phytosanitary Laboratory Services, five of the samples did not match the required characteristics in terms of fatty acids (vegetable oil content index).
More exactly, vegetable oil was found in the ‘Sour cream Maslova" (18%) produced by Tamara and Ani LLC, in sour cream produced by Multi Agro (18%), in sour cream produced by Pargev LLC (13%), as well as in sour cream produced by Bandivan Kat LLC (18%).
The regulator decided to conduct inspections in all five companies, as in accordance with paragraph 2 of Article 2 of the “Law on Food Safety”, these products are considered counterfeit. The State Service reminded that a product is considered counterfeit, if its composition was changed without a corresponding change of the label, or its labeling was changed without a corresponding modification of the content, or processed with the inclusion of other substances, or given the name of a third party without its prior written consent.
On January 16, 2019, a provision of the regulations of the Eurasian Economic Union on the safety of milk and dairy products entered into force, which requires that milk-containing products be labeled “Milk-containing product with milk fat substitute produced by sour cream technology”. The container must have notice written in large-size letters that the product contains vegetable oil by indicating its specific brand. -0—
