Exports of Armenian wines to Russia drop

In the first half of 2019 Russia accounted for 72.3% of exports of Armenian wines, down from 75.1% a year earlier, the head of the Union of Armenian Winemakers Avak Harutyunyan said at a press conference.

In the first half of 2019 Russia accounted for 72.3% of exports of Armenian wines, down from 75.1% a year earlier, the head of the Union of Armenian Winemakers Avak Harutyunyan said at a press conference. He recalled that 20 years ago Russia accounted for almost 95 percent of Armenian wine exports.
He said the drop should be blamed on Russian stereotypes, because many Russians prefer Armenian cognac and vodka, but Georgian wines.
According to Harutyunyan, Russia is followed by China. which accounted for 5.1% of Armenian wine exports. Some 4% were sold in Switzerland, 3.4% in the USA, 2% in Lebanon and 1 8% in France.
In general, according to Harutyunyan, in the first half of 2019, Armenian grape wine exports amounted to 1.3 million liters, up from 1.1 million liters in the first half of 2019. The rise was almost 20%.
According to Harutyunyan, the exports of fruit wines reached 2.1 million liters compared to 1.3 million liters in the first half of 2018. As for the Armenian brandy, its export increased from 16 million liters last year to 20 million liters this year. - 0--
