A laboratory built and equipped by the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) with funds provided by the government of Greece was inaugurated today in Yerevan.

YEREVAN, June 23. / ARKA /. A laboratory built and equipped by the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) with funds provided by the government of Greece was inaugurated today in Yerevan. The $2 million facility will be supervising the quality of pesticides.
"This laboratory is very important, as the situation in the market of pesticides is complicated and very often our farmers are dissatisfied with their quality,' the minister of agriculture Sergo Karapetyan said at the opening ceremony.
According to him, on the other hand, it is very important to check also the level of the pesticide residues in agricultural products, which is important in terms of preventing public health risks and overseeing the quality of products in general.
"This laboratory will enable us to oversee tightly the entire market of pesticides as well as increase the level of food safety", he said.
The minister explained that the checks will be carried out by the State Food Safety Service, including on requests from individuals.-0-
