YEREVAN, April 9. / ARKA /. The Armenian government on Thursday has approved a draft decision on revoking a law that makes labeling magnetic video and audio carriers by holograms compulsory.
The head of the National Center for Regulation of Legislation Armen Yeghiazaryan said the law was passed to raise copyright protection to a higher level by prohibiting the sale of audio and video products without excise stamps.
He said the experience has shown, however, that not all provisions of this law are applied in practice- for example, the law envisages that copyright protection should be handled by the ministry of economy by issuing licenses for sale of copyright products which is not appropriate since authors should themselves protect their copyrights.
According to him, the growing Internet penetration makes pointless exercising such control in the market, which itself is gradually "dying.’
Prime minister Hovik Abrahamyan noted that the revoking of the law must not affect tax collection rate. The law in question was passed in April 2013.-0-
