Government to provide interest free loans to suppliers of agricultural goods

The government of Armenia plans to revise the mechanism of assistance provided to suppliers of agricultural products, Armenian Minister of Economy Tigran Khachatryan said at a press conference today.
YEREVAN, April 29. /ARKA/. The government of Armenia plans to revise the mechanism of assistance provided to suppliers of agricultural products, Armenian Minister of Economy Tigran Khachatryan said at a press conference today.
He said if a supplier company does not have enough funds at the time of purchase, the government will provide interest-free loans. The maximum loan amount for one company is 1.8 billion drams. He said the program will be extended to include purchases made for production of canned food .
He said that the government maintains close contact with about 20 companies that supply 80% of agricultural products.
The Armenian government, in general, approved 14 programs to counteract the economic consequences of coronavirus. Of these, six are designed to show support to agriculture, tourism, SMEs, microbusiness and other industries), and eight to various segments of the population.
Armenia declared a 30-day state of emergency on March 16 to curb the spread of coronavirus. It also imposed restrictions on free movement of citizens and banned also some types of economic activity. On April 13, the government extended the state of emergency for another month allowing simultaneously some businesses to reopen.
As of April 29, Armenia's confirmed cases of coronavirus have grown to 1,932; 900 patients have recovered and 30 people have died ($1 - 479.63 drams). -0-
