YEREVAN, December 25. / ARKA /. Armenia’s health minister Armen Muradyan said today prices of medicines have gone down in recent days, while the pharmacies are being tightly monitored by special groups set up at the instruction of the prime minister.
The minister categorically denied rumors that some hospitals and clinics have also raised prices of their services.
According to him, the wholesale markets of medications are monitored by the anti-trust agency- the State Commission for the Protection of Economic Competition. He said the ministry requested explanations from some companies that raised their prices and found that in some instances the rise did not stem from the changes in the exchange rates of currencies.
“There were also cases when the prices of locally manufactured medicines rose too that can not be explained by changes in the exchange rate of the dram," said Muradyan.
Earlier media reports claimed that the depreciation of the national currency against US Dollar and euro had shot up prices of many medications.-0-
