YEREVAN, May 6. /ARKA/. Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Peter Szijjarto announced the establishment of a working group that will deal with economic cooperation.

"Its goal will be to develop economic ties. Hungarian pharmaceutical companies Richter and Eges have become more active in the Armenian market and are increasing their market share," Szijjártó said at a joint press conference with Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan in Budapest.

He recalled the agreement on the opening of embassies in the capitals of Armenia and Hungary, as well as the launch of direct Wizz Air flights between the capitals of the two countries.

"Some 180 million forints will be provided to Nagorno-Karabakh refugee families to start a new life in Armenia. We will continue to cooperate with the International Committee of the Red Cross in this field. Some 1,200 children and their parents will have an opportunity to have a vacation in Hungary. Four billion forints have been provided to support the Armenian community in Hungary to preserve their identity and culture," Szijjártó said.

According to him, Hungary makes efforts for the development of Armenia-EU ties. The Minister informed about the readiness to launch a dialogue on visa liberalization and work on the cooperation agenda.

Armenia broke diplomatic relations with Hungary in 2012 after Budapest extradited to Azerbaijan Ramil Safarov, who was sentenced to life imprisonment in Hungary for the murder of Armenian officer Gurgen Margaryan.

Safarov murdered Gurgen Margaryan with an axe while he was sleeping. Both were in Budapest to take part in a NATO Partnership for Peace program. 

Hungary agreed to transfer Safarov to serve the remainder of his sentence in Azerbaijan, however, . Safarov was instead issued a pardon by Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev on his return. 

On December 1, 2022 Armenian and Hungarian Foreign Ministers Ararat Mirzoyan and Péter Szijjártó agreed to restore full diplomatic relations. As a follow-up to the meeting, the two governments appointed non-resident ambassadors to explore possibilities for developing
