Import of cars to Armenia soars

Armenian car imports have grown rapidly in the last few years, Yegor Karapetyan, the head of the traffic police, told reporters on Monday at the start of the fifth UN Global Road Safety Week.
YEREVAN, May 6. /ARKA/. Armenian car imports have grown rapidly in the last few years, Yegor Karapetyan, the head of the traffic police, told reporters on Monday at the start of the fifth UN Global Road Safety Week.
According to him, in 2017 about 35,000 imported cars were registered by the traffic police, in 2018 their number increased to 73,500 and only in the first quarter of 2019, some 35,000 cars were registered. He said of these cars about 50% are in the capital Yerevan, resulting in heavy traffic jams.
He said the traffic police are doing everything possible to avoid traffic jams on the streets of the capital, and even deployed traffic controllers at the busiest crossroads.
In the first three months of 2019, 937 traffic accidents were reported in the country, 63 people were killed in them and another 1,400 were injured. -0-
