YEREVAN, November 6. /ARKA/. Armenia’s government is going to implement investment programs of $200 million total cost in water economy at a period between 2016 and 2020, the government says in its draft decision.

On Thursday, at its regular session, the Cabinet gave its approval to a model of prequalification applications for a tender to be announced for choosing a concession operator of the country’s water economy system.

Aram Harutyunyan, the head of the Water Committee of Armenia, said that this implies handover of all the five water economy companies of Armenia – Yerevan Jur, Armenian Water and Sewerage CJSC , Lori Lori Water and Sewerage CJSC, Shirak Water and Sewerage CJSC and Nor Akunk.

Terms of all these companies’ management and leasing contracts expires on May 31, 2016. The Armenian government decided on May 31, 2016 to lease all the mentioned companies’ property in a bid to enhance effectiveness of management of water resources.

The new concession operator is expected to start working in 2017.

In its draft decision, the government says that various international grant and credit projects are being implemented now in the water economy. The government expressed intention to continue them. In particular – investment programs totaling $200 million are planned to be implemented over a period between 2016 and 2020.

One month ago the government outlined key requirements to companies that want to compete in the leasing tender.

The key requirements to contenders are following: the company must run the country’s water resources throughout 15 years and it must know the number of the water-consuming entities. Experience of working in at least three countries but Armenia in the last 15 years is necessary as well.

Besides, every applicant must have at least three implemented water system recovery projects worth no less than $5 million each and turnover amounting to no less than $50 million in the last 15 years.

In addition, contenders must account for at lest 100,000 customers and submit a five year development program. --0----
