Iran ready to increase gas supplies to Armenia
YEREVAN, February 27. /ARKA/. Iranian Energy Minister Reza Ardakanian told reporters today in Yerevan that Iran was ready to increase gas supplies to Armenia.

Speaking at the 15th session of the Armenian-Iranian commission on economic cooperation Reza Ardakanian said both sides were negotiating the exchange of electricity for gas deal, adding that the outcome of the talks would be announced once they were over.

The minister did not mention the specific price at which Iran is ready to sell gas to Armenia and neither said how much Iranian gas supplies to Armenia could be increased after the construction of the 3rd Iran-Armenia power transmission line with a capacity of 400 kV is over in 2019.

Today, as part of gas for electricity swap deal Armenia receives about 370 million cubic meters of gas a year from Iran, which is converted into electricity and is shipped back to Iran. Earlier it was reported that Iran would triple its gas exports to Armenia by 2019 and will also sell gas to Georgia through Armenia. In particular, Tehran was said to plan to increase natural gas exports to Armenia from 1 million cubic meters of gas per day to 3 million cubic meters.

The energy ministers of Armenia, Russia, Iran and the deputy energy minister of Georgia signed in April, 2016 in Yerevan a "road map" for the construction of about 1,000 MW North-South energy corridor. -0-
