YEREVAN, June 1. /ARKA/. Iranian company Tana Partez will plant intensive pistachio gardens in Armenia’s Armavir province, Armenian Ministry of Agriculture said. It said an agreement to that end was reached at a meeting between Armenian Minister of Agriculture Artur Khachatryan and the head of Tana Partez LLC Beyazda Eslaichi.

The Iranian company has purchased 600 hectares of agricultural land in the communities of Artamet and Baghramyan of Armavir region. A drip irrigation system will be built for some 400 hectares of this land.
Minister Khachatryan was said to have stressed the importance of such projects for the development of agriculture in Armenia, ‘since they not only provide an opportunity to increase the area of cultivated land, but also introduce new varieties of crops.’

Eslaichi briefly presented the company's activities and forthcoming programs, noting that before the creation of gardens the company will conduct a series of studies to select the most suitable varieties of pistachios for local climatic conditions. In addition, storage tanks and a separate waterway for irrigation of gardens will be created.

The Iranian businessman said that the company is trying to expand its activities in Armenia, create a drying and packaging shop for pistachios and expects assistance from the Ministry of Agriculture.
Khachatryan was said to have assured that the ministry will support the company. -0-
