Iranian oil minister set to visit Armenia soon- ambassador says
YEREVAN, September 20. /ARKA/. Iranian oil minister Bijan Namdar Zanganeh is expected to visit Armenia soon to discuss increasing exports of natural gas to Armenia, Iranian ambassador to Armenia, Seyed Kazem Sajjad, said today.

He recalled that in July Iran increased gas supplies to Armenia at the request of Yerevan  after delivery of Russian gas through Georgia was halted for repair of the pipeline.

"As regards  increasing gas deliveries to Armenia and transit of Iranian gas to Georgia through Armenia, this question will be discussed by the minister during his planned visit to Armenia, and I think that the Iranian side will try to support Armenia's interests in this matter,’ the ambassador said.

Earlier Iranian oil minister Bijan Zanganeh said Iran was  going to build up its natural gas supply to Armenia from 1 million cubic meters a day to 3 million cubic meters in the next few years, and will make gas supplies to Georgia through Armenian territory.

According to Armenian Customs Service, imports of natural gas to Armenia in the first half of 2016 decreased by 23.2% from the first half of 2015 to 1.004.8 billion cubic meters. The customs value of the imported gas decreased by 36% to $162.6 million. Imports of natural gas from Russia declined by 27.3% from 1.125 billion cubic meters in the first half of 2015 to 818.3 million cubic meters,  while imports from Iran increased  by 1.2% to 186.5 million cubic meters.

Armenia not only imported, but also exported natural gas - 24.7 million cubic meters- to the neighboring Georgia earning $6.1 million.  According to the Armenian customs data, in 2015 Armenia imported a total of 2.6 billion cubic meters of natural gas worth $ 514.3 million, up from about 2.5 billion cubic meters imported in 2014.

Imports of Iranian gas in 2015 amounted to 383.1 million cubic meters worth $72.4 million, up from 365.9 million cubic meters imported in 2014. Russia accounted for 82% of Armenian natural gas imports (about 2.2 billion cubic meters a year) worth $426.3 million. -0-
