YEREVAN. December 23. /ARKA/. Fifth power block of Hrazdan thermal power plant (TPP) (Hrazdan-5) will operate in January 2012, said Armenian Energy and Natural Resource Minister Armen Movsisyan.
“Works are already finished and testing has started. Currently, testing is in process, in the result of which in the fifth energy block about 20 million kW/h energy was produced”, he said the press-conference on Thursday.
Construction and assembling works in Hrazdan-5 is implemented by “ArmRosgazprom” – monopolist in the sphere of Russian natural gas delivery and distribution in Armenia (shareholders - “Gazprom” and the Government of Armenia). According to recent data, investment program of power block reconstruction is assessed $456 million.
Movsisyan said that testing is planned to finish by the end of this year.
In Hrazdan-5 technology of matching steam and gas turbines is introduced, which will make the structure unique not only in the region, but also worldwide. Due to the given technology, the capacity of power block will be 480 megawatt .
At present, Turkey and Iran are interested in the electricity to be produced in Hrazdan-5.
Hrazdan TPP (four operating power blocks) was transferred to the ownership of Russian Federation as repayment of a part of debt of Armenia amounting $31 million. In 2006 the Government of Armenia and "Gazprom" signed agreement according to which "ArmRosgasprom" will obtain assets of unfinished 5th power block of Hrazdan TPP with liability of finishing its construction and modernization.--0--
