New greenhouses on 50 hectares of land to be built this year

New greenhouses with a total area of about 50 hectares will be built in Armenia by the end of 2015, agriculture minister Sergo Karapetyan said today.

YEREVAN, September 9. / ARKA /. New greenhouses with a total area of about 50 hectares will be built in Armenia by the end of 2015, agriculture minister Sergo Karapetyan said today.
"Greenhouses in Armenia occupy a total area of 770 hectares, of which 270 hectares are glazed greenhouses and another 500 hectares are protected by cellophane sheets,’ he said.
The minister said the latest technology was used in recent years to build new greenhouses on 85 hectares.
According to him, foreign investments in Armenia's greenhouses are growing because they are very promising due to large number of sunny days throughout the year.
"I think that in a few years, the number of greenhouses will increase dramatically,’ said Karapetyan.
According to the ministry of agriculture, Armenia has 351,300 hectares of arable land, which make 78.5% of the 447,000 hectares suitable for agriculture. -0-
