YEREVAN, November 29. /ARKA/. A monitoring initiated by the National Academy of Consumers of Armenia has found no irregularities at economic entities producing meat and dairy products and at bakeries, Melita Hakobyan, the chair of the academy, said Monday at a news conference.
In her words, the monitoring has been conducted at 40 economic entities in conformity with European standards.
“The laboratories are commercial organizations, and this circumstance arouses the risk of nonobjective examination and lives room for rigging results,” she said. “That is why samples of products are sent to three different laboratories. To ward off distortion by the laboratories the samples are examined by unique codes without mentioning names of firms.”
Hakobyan also said that, as a rule, the bulk of irregularities are due to improper storage of products in supermarkets, and there is no producers’ fault.
Ruben Aytyan, deputy chairman of the academy, on his side, said that the country’s dairy industry has accomplished a great deal.
Domestic dairy industry, he said, ensures about 90% of the sold dairy products, of which 30% are products made of imported raw materials, for example, milk powder and condensed milk.
“As for meat products, they are naturally are made of imported high-quality meat,” he said.
Earlier, hetq.am, the website of journalistic investigation, appealed to the State Food Safety Agency of Armenia proposing to examine the samples of doctor sausage of local production which have been taken from supermarkets on November 14. The agency sent the samples to Standard Dialogue laboratory, but the latter didn’t find any discrepancy. -0---
