Pashinyan announces reduction in fuel prices and addresses criticism regarding supplies from Azerbaijan
YEREVAN, January 13. /АРКА/. Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan responded to concerns about fuel imports from Azerbaijan.
"Since mid-December 2025, gasoline produced in Azerbaijan has started to be imported into Armenia. Premium gasoline is primarily sourced from Azerbaijan. The lowest price for this type of gasoline in the Armenian market has dropped by 15% (from 510 drams per liter to 430 drams per liter)," Pashinyan stated.
He noted that diesel fuel was imported from Azerbaijan to Armenia just two days ago.
"The lowest price for diesel fuel has fallen by 2%. The price of regular gasoline has also seen a decrease of about 8% compared to December (on December 11, a liter of this gasoline was priced at 500 drams, now it is 460 drams). These changes are the result of the peace agenda and its advantages," Pashinyan explained.
He acknowledged that there is criticism in both Armenia and Azerbaijan regarding this situation.
"In Yerevan, some claim that we are purchasing gasoline and sending money to Azerbaijan, which they use to launch attacks on Armenia. In Baku, the narrative is that they supply gasoline and diesel to Armenia so that we can refuel our tanks and attack Azerbaijan," Pashinyan remarked.
He reassured that these concerns are baseless, as peace has been established between Armenia and Azerbaijan, and this peace will become more institutionalized over time.
"In Armenia, this concern is fueled by companies and groups that have held a monopoly on the gasoline market for many years. They will now be forced to lower their prices, which will lead to the decline and eventual disappearance of these monopolies. The citizens of Armenia will benefit from this. This is the reality we must adapt to and take advantage of, which the Republic of Armenia is currently doing," Pashinyan concluded.
As per the report from the Statistical Committee of Armenia (Armstat), the price of gasoline in Armenia saw a decline of 0.8% in December 2025 compared to December 2024, while diesel prices fell by 0.9%.
Additionally, gasoline prices rose by 0.1% in December 2025 compared to November of the same year, whereas diesel prices experienced a slight decrease of 0.1%.
Furthermore, from January to December 2025, gasoline and diesel prices dropped by 2.2% and 4.1%, respectively, when compared to the same period in 2024.-0-
