Regulator head: Cream imported from Iran to Armenia is safe

YEREVAN, November 14. /ARKA/. The cream imported from Iran to Armenia is safe; otherwise, the Food Safety Inspectorate would have banned its import, stated Tigran Petrosyan, head of the regulator.

"The decision by the Russian agricultural watchdog Rosselkhoznadzor to ban the import of dairy products made in Armenia from Iranian cream to Russia is not a reflection of poor quality or safety concerns. The Russian authorities simply prefer to receive dairy products from our country that are produced using local raw materials," Petrosyan stated during a press conference on Friday, as reported by Armenpress.

He explained that this cream has undergone ultra-pasteurization, ensuring its safety.

"If there were any risk associated with the product, its import to Armenia would have been categorically prohibited. We utilize this product ourselves," Petrosyan reassured.

He highlighted that each batch of cream imported from Iran to Armenia is subjected to laboratory testing, including checks at the border.

"I dismiss the possibility of unknown products being illegally imported into Armenia. Should such information arise, we are prepared to visit the location, conduct an inspection, and provide a report on the findings," the head of the regulator remarked.

He also mentioned that in 2025, the amount of Iranian cream imported to Armenia was the lowest in the past two years—totaling 925 tons.

"We have communicated with the Russian authorities. They themselves import the same Iranian cream directly from Iran to Russia. They require that dairy products imported from Armenia be made solely from Armenian raw materials," Petrosyan concluded.-0-
