Retail e-commerce sales in Armenia have tripled during the state of emergency, announced by the government to stop the spread of coronavirus, Minister of High Technology Industry Hakob Arshakyan said at a press conference today.
YEREVAN, April 8. /ARKA/. Retail e-commerce sales in Armenia have tripled during the state of emergency, announced by the government to stop the spread of coronavirus, Minister of High Technology Industry Hakob Arshakyan said at a press conference today.
He said the estimate is backed by the data from various electronic trading platforms. 'This suggests that, in conditions of isolation, trade outlets can organize it online," Arshakyan said.
The minister did not specify saying only that the cash flow at various sites has multiplied several times, depending on the sector. He described the trend as a positive indicator, which indicates great opportunities in the field of cashless trading.
"The use of high technologies in various areas of online trading has become an additional incentive for this type of business. I think that in the future, for transparency, convenience and a commensurate development of trade, these sites will become a good mechanism for stores, including for their deliveries to regions," said Arshakyan.
Armenia declared a 30-day state of emergency on March 16 to stop the spread of coronavirus. Later, it imposed stringent restrictions on the movement of people and banned also some types of economic activity until April 12 inclusive.
As of April 8, 881 confirmed cases of coronavirus were recorded in Armenia, 114 patients were said to have recovered and nine people, all with pre-existing health conditions, died. -0-
