Under the new system of levies and penalties, which came into effect from November 15, the levy is charged on trucks of more than 12 tons for rides on federal highways to compensate for damage done to the road surface. The levy will equal 1.53 rubles ($0.02) per km of a federal highway before February 29, 2016 and 3.06 rubles ($0.04) before the end of 2018. The penalty for unpaid rides is 450,000 rubles and 1 million rubles for a repeat violation.
The tax applies to all carriers, both Russian and foreign, which travel across the country.
"This new tax increases the cost of transported goods from Yerevan to Moscow by $110-120. Since this tax applies to all trucks we view it as a factor complicating the competition, but on a level field", said Ghazaryan. -0-
