SCPEC: restrictions on cargo transportation between Iran and Armenia will not lead to shortage of goods
YEREVAN, March 2. /ARKA/. Restrictions imposed by the government of Armenia on cargo transportation between Armenia and Iran will not lead to a shortage of goods, the chairman of the State Commission for the Protection of Economic Competition (SCPEC)  Gegham Gevorgyan told reporters on Monday.

On Monday, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan announced the tightening of control over freight traffic between Armenia and Iran following a meeting of the commission set to prevent the spread of coronavirus. He also appealed to the citizens of Armenia asking them to refrain from making cargo transportation transactions with Iran, as far as possible, including the import of goods.

Gegham Gevorgyan  said  that SCPEC in cooperation with the State Revenues Committee and the Ministry of Economy are specifying  the list of goods imported from Iran to assess their impact on the market and possible negative consequences in case their imports are suspended.

"My colleagues will give an economic assessment, but for my part I can say that suspension of Armenian imports of goods from Iran cannot cause a shortage or problems in the Armenian market," said Gevorgyan. According to him, even the import of diesel fuel from Iran is not as  large as to cause problems.

He said the country has the necessary volumes of diesel fuel, adding that the measures taken with regard to the border are not designed for a long period and expressed hope for an early resolution of the issue.

The first case of coronavirus COVID-19 infection was confirmed in Armenia on Sunday. After a repeat examination a 29-year-old Armenian citizen who arrived from Tehran on February 28, tested positive for the virus. About 30 people who contacted with him were isolated at the Golden Palace hotel in Tsakhkadzor. -0-
