YEREVAN, June 21. /ARKA/. South Caucasian Railway said it had significantly increased the level of efficiency of freight cars and locomotives In January-May of 2012.
According to the source the recent statistics, accelerated turnover of freight cars increased by 0.5 days or 13.5% against the level of the first five months of 2011.
The statistics also shows that one car, on average, was on run during 3.7 days. In January - May 2012 the average performance of a car amounted to 3972 tons/km net/wagon, which is 12.2% higher from the same period of 2011.
The locomotive fleet performance indexes also improved. In particular, the average mileage of the locomotive was 354.1 loc/km exceeding the indexes of January – May 2011 by 6%.
“The company achieved such results due to its policy of railway infrastructure and traction-rolling stock improvement on the basis of comprehensive measures to ensure traffic safety,” the press release states.
South Caucasus Railways, a 100-percent subsidiary of Russian Railways, runs Armenian Railway.
Armenian Railways was handed over to the South Caucasus Railways on February 13, 2008 for 30-year concession management with a right to prolong the management term for other 10 years.-0-
