YEREVAN, November 18. /ARKA/. Armenia’s State Food Safety Service (SFSS) has denied today a report by a local daily ‘Aravot’ (Morning) claiming that large numbers of chickens died at Lusakert and some other poultry farms across the country.
The SFSS said acting on the report, it experts visited Lusakert poultry farm on the same day to clarify the situation and found no "mass deaths" of chicken as the daily claimed.
The agency said out of 36,480 chickens in a hen house of Lusakert poultry farm only 1,869 were reported to die during a month, which is in compliance with the accepted norm.
The director of the poultry farm told the experts that veterinary epidemiological measures had been carried out, including vaccination. He said as a result the mortality decreased, and soon stopped at all.
The director also declined allegations that using the eggs produced by the poultry was risky for health, saying 5 month old chickens had died, while normally hens begin to lay eggs only after they get 180 days old . -0-
