Smuggling of 25 thousand boxes of cigarettes from Iran stopped in Armenia (VIDEO)

YEREVAN, 16 September. /ARKA/. Armenia’s State Revenue Committee (SRC) said its officers have uncovered another attempt of smuggling a large consignment of cigarettes.

It said a truck with Armenian licence plates, which arrived in Armenia from Iran, underwent X-ray scanning at the Agarak border checkpoint, raising suspicion of transporting goods hidden from customs control.

During the customs inspection 25 thousand boxes of cigarettes were found between the bags with cement. This information was reported to the Investigative Committee.

The SRC also reported that over 180 thousand boxes of smuggled cigarettes, which smugglers tried to import to Armenia from duty-free shops in Iran and Georgia, were discovered during the last six months.

Also, more than 7 thousand e-cigarettes sticks from the Russian Federation, declared in EEU cargoes either by wrong code or not by name, were also detected. -0-
