YEREVAN, December 29. /ARKA/. Currently 142 rural communities in Armenia run agricultural livestock cooperatives, the minister of agriculture Sergo Karapetyan told a news conference on Monday
"We believe that the development of agriculture in Armenia is contingent on the development of agricultural cooperatives, which are of great importance in our country," Karapetyan said.
According to him, the cooperatives have proven their effectiveness as their revenues increased, productivity of livestock has also increased by 18-20%, and the fodder sufficiency is 75%.
"Cooperatives were provided with 740 units of agricultural machinery, including 165 tractors 165; 20% of the cost is paid by the cooperatives and the rest by the government,’ said Karapetyan.
He said also they expect new cooperatives to be created this year in another 50 communities. There are about 3,040 farms in the country now. -0-
