YEREVAN, July 30. /ARKA/. Prices of sugar and bananas have dropped in Armenia and there are no obstacles for those wishing to import petrol and diesel fuel, the chairman of the State Commission for the Protection of Economic Competition (SCPEC) Artak Shaboyan said at a meeting with Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan.
Shaboyan spoke in detail about the developments in the previously monopolized markets of sugar, gasoline and bananas, saying in particular that until recently the main sugar supplier was one company, but over the past two months, the number of importers and the volume of sugar imports increased significantly.
"As a result sugar prices are declining, and at present, a kilogram of sugar costs 285 drams ($0.59) compared to 390 drams ($0.81) at the beginning of the year. The price fell by 26%," Shaboyan said. Speaking about the banana market, SCPEC chairman stressed that until recently 90% of the market was controlled by one company and its subsidiaries.
Shaboyan said also that over the past two months, the number of importers and import volumes of bananas has also increased significantly; as a result, the price has decreased at least twice to 480 drams ($1).
Speaking about petrol and diesel fuel, Shaboyan said that there are 3-4 large oil traders, and there are no obstacles for anyone wishing to import these fuels. According to him, the main problem for companies entering this market is absence or shortage of infrastructure for selling petrol and diesel fuels.
Shaboyan added there is also a problem of fraud in this market regarding volumes of fuel sold, which creates unequal competitive conditions, and there are problems with diesel fuel standards. ($ 1 - 480.82 drams). --0--
