Flour and sugar prices rose in Armenia after New Year holidays, Hraparak reports.
YEREVAN, January 12. /ARKA/. Flour and sugar prices rose in Armenia after New Year holidays, Hraparak reports.
According to the newspaper, rumors about the price hike reached retail traders yet on December 30.
Milling plants raised their prices for one bag of flour (50 kilograms) by 400 to 600 drams. Before that, the Echmiadzin milling plant sold a bag of flour for 10,200 drams while now it is selling it for 10,700 drams. The company provides no explanations.
Baghramyan milling plant raised its price by one US dollar. Sayad Gasparyan, head of its industrial division, explained the increase by transportation difficulties on Upper Lars checkpoint on Russia-Georgia border, which are creating problems and driving prices up.
He also declared that there is no monopoly at the market saying that dozens of companies are involved in this business.
Harparak also reports that bread prices in some provinces went 40 drams up.
Sugar prices rose by 30-40 drams as well. The price per one kilogram may reach 500 or 600 drams from the present 400. ($1- AMD 485). --0---
