Syunik Airport in Kapan receives three-digit IATA code

YEREVAN, September 25. /ARKA/. The Syunik Airport in the town of Kapan in southern Armenia has received a three-digit code YUK (identifier) from the International Air Transport Association (IATA).

Syunik" is the third civil airport in Armenia to receive the IATA code, along with Yerevan's Zvartnots International Airport (EVN) and Gyumri's Shirak (LWN).

The Civil Aviation Committee of Armenia told ARKA news that the code itself does not give the airport the opportunity to serve international flights. To obtain the status of an international airport it must meet ICAO standards.

"We applied for the code a long time ago and now we have received it, it is a standard process," the Committee noted.

Syunik Airport, which has been idle for about 30 years, was previously renovated according to international criteria and certified by the Civil Aviation Committee of Armenia in 2020.

Since August 21, 2023, the airport has been handling regular flights between Kapan and Yerevan. The flights are operated by NorAir airline twice a week - on Tuesdays and Fridays, a one-way ticket costs 20 thousand drams (about $50). --0—
