The situation in the Middle East could lead to a capital outflow from its concentration region – Dubai and Abu Dhabi, to more neutral countries, including Oman, according to Konstantin Saroyan, Secretary General of the Federation of EuroAsian Capital Markets.
YEREVAN, March 13. /ARKA/. The situation in the Middle East could lead to a capital outflow from its concentration region – Dubai and Abu Dhabi, to more neutral countries, including Oman, according to Konstantin Saroyan, Secretary General of the Federation of EuroAsian Capital Markets.
"I've noticed a trend – over the past few weeks, the ATX (Austrian Traded Index) has fallen by 10%, and I thought this would impact the entire region. However, at the same time, the MSX (Muscat Stock Exchange Index) has risen by more than 10%," he said during a panel discussion at the fourth Capital Markets Armenia forum, organized by Cbonds.
Thus, according to Saroyan, capital and investors are seeking a "safe haven": It's impossible to quickly and painlessly flee the entire region, which is why there's such a flow.
"Why Oman? Because it's more neutral in the region than other participants. Furthermore, in terms of transport corridors, it's safer. Therefore, I think there will be a flow toward Oman," he explained.
