YEREVAN, March 6. /ARKA/. Ahead of International Women’s Day, Grant Thornton International released its 2020 Women in Business report. According to the report, the number of women holding senior positions in Armenia has increased by 1% in 2019, reaching 23%.

The report says that  in 2019 some 29% of senior management roles across the globe were held by women. While that’s the highest percentage yet recorded, it’s still short of the 30% tipping point that is expected to open the gates to gender parity. It found also that 78% of companies in the world are actively trying to promote gender equality in leadership positions.

The study says that the number of companies that take various measures in this direction has increased, including ensuring equal gender conditions in career development (34%), creating an inclusive (comprehensive) culture (34%) and switching to a flexible work schedule (31%).

“Having more women in senior management matters because of the sheer value you get from diversity of thinking,” Francesca Lagerberg, global leader of network capabilities at Grant Thornton International, said in the report. By having gender diversity in senior management, their views on the market are likely to be more reflective of a broader clientele, she added.

Grant Thornton International is an international organization that brings together independent audit, accounting and consulting firms that provide audit, tax and consulting services to private and public companies.
