Tigran Jrbashyan: Armenian women are more effective in business than men

YEREVAN, June 30. /ARKA/. Armenian women are more effective in business, said Tigran Jrbashyan, Director of Management Consulting Service at Ameria and Head of the National Team of the Global Entrepreneurship Report.

This is how he commented, at the request of the ARKA news  agency, on one of the theses of the Global Entrepreneurship Report 2024/2025, that in Armenia, women's entrepreneurship, unlike men's, is relatively underdeveloped.

"This is a big topic for discussion: we dealt with this during the development of our demographic and employment strategies. We conducted an in-depth analysis, trying to assess women's participation in creating added value in general, including entrepreneurship," Jrbashyan said.

According to him, women's entrepreneurship is a separate and very important area in the employment strategy.

"We still cannot properly assess the size of the so-called 'care' sphere, which includes housework, childcare, and elderly care. In fact, I don't think women are less busy. We are planning to conduct a study this year to understand how responsibilities are distributed in the family and what burden this creates," Jrbashyan said.

He acknowledged that Armenia has problems with childcare infrastructure.

"The third problem, of course, is the patriarchy of our families, where the idea that the husband should be the main breadwinner and the wife should mainly spend still prevails. But according to the research results, it is obvious that women are usually more effective in business. This is the 'other side of the coin' of the patriarchal family," Jrbashyan said.

He explained that, as a rule, it is women in Armenia who manage the family budget. This leads to the fact that they are also much more effective in terms of spending than men.

He said that because women have less responsibility for providing for their families, they make riskier decisions in business, which makes them more effective.
