YEREVAN, June 3. /ARKA/. Armenia’s national water distributing company Veolia Jur will invest 2.7 billion drams this year in the modernization of the water supply network, the director of Veolia Jur West division Aram Sahakyan said at a press conference last Friday.

He said under the network lease agreement the company obliged to invest a total of 37 billion drams in the next 15 years in upgrading the networks. He recalled that the government in turn pledged to invest another $200 million, but added that so far no funding has been provided.

According to him, last year alone, the company laid 60 km of water pipelines, but many regions still need to replace water supply systems. "Last year when replacing water pipes in the Kanaker district of Yerevan we revealed that part of the pipeline had been laid back in 1912," said Sahakyan.

In 2018 November Armenia’s Ministry of Energy Infrastructures and Natural Resources and Veolia Jur national water distribution company signed an agreement whereby the distributor undertook not to seek a rise in the water price until 2025.

Veolia Jur CJSC (a subsidiary of the French Veolia Generale des Eaux) is the only national water distribution operator in the country. ($1 – 480.27 drams). --0--
