YEREVAN, June 8. /ARKA/. The Week of Women’s Entrepreneurship in Armenia began today in Yerevan for the first time.
The event is organized by the Association of Young Women of Armenia, which became a member of the World Association of Women Entrepreneurs this year.
Vache Gabrielyan, vice-premier and the minister of economic integration and reforms of Armenia, speaking today at the opening ceremony, said that this event will strengthen positions of female entrepreneurs in Armenia and in eastern countries and will provide them an experience-exchanging platform.
“Armenia’s government attaches importance to the role of women in development of social and economic sectors and encourages their entrepreneurial activities,” he said.
In his words, various programs are being worked out now to support business women, root out gender discrimination in entrepreneurship and enhance the degree of women’s involvement in different segments of the country’s economy.
“Female entrepreneurs in Armenia not only have a huge potential for doing business, but they also put new initiatives into practice,” he said.
Gabrielyan said that the Week of Women’s Entrepreneurship in Armenia will become the best example for those women who are just starting their businesses.
He added that the government is always keeping a close eye to business women’s problems and is constantly taking necessary steps to solve these problems.
“Statistical reports show that women in Armenia are mostly involved in small and mid-scale businesses and that they are tuned to expand their businesses and are willing to use the government-provided assistance,” the vice-premier said.
U.S. Ambassador to Armenia Richard Mills, on his side, expressed hope that while on diplomatic mission in Armenia, he will take part in creation of favorable environment for putting promising ideas into reality.
He pointed out the necessity of setting particular entrepreneurship rules, which should apply to all entrepreneurs.
The ambassador also finds it necessary to identify all the obstacles hobbling entrepreneurship in Armenia and remove them, since resourceful entrepreneurs not only ensure economic growth to the country, but also do everything for implementing changes here.
Hermine Naghdalyan, vice-speaker at the National Assembly of Armenia, said the businesses run by women are more effective and useful to the country.
An international conference and business women’s meetings will be held and an exhibition will be opened as part of the Week of Women’s Entrepreneurship in Armenia.
Lawmakers, government officials, representatives of nongovernmental organizations and governing institutions as well as business people from France, Russia, Italy, Kazakhstan, Georgia, Monaco and Iran and representatives of the European Union, the International Monetary Fund, the United Nations Industrial Development Organization , the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, the Asian Development Bank, German’s International Cooperation Foundation, the U.S. Embassy, the International Finance Corporation and other organizations are attending the events of the Week of Women’s Entrepreneurship in Armenia. ---0----
