YEREVAN, October 10. /ARKA/. Armenian winegrowers are having no problems this year in selling their grape as prices and the procurement volumes are on the rise Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said at a government meeting on Thursday.
“In essence, the grape purchase season is ending. It is interesting that this year there has been no noise regarding grape procurement. This is a very important fact. I congratulate everyone on this. It is important to fix that this is quite a serious success," Pashinyan said.
He said this is the outcome of the joint steps taken by the government and the State Revenue Committee.
"This is a concrete and positive fact. I think that we have found a way to avoid artificial stress and violating the rights of winegrowers during the procurement period. We can say that we have solved this problem," Pashinyan said. He also pointed out the need to adjust statistical indicators, which are often criticized.
According to Deputy Minister of Economy Avak Avanesyan, as of October 9, about 160 thousand tons of grapes were purchased, which is 37% higher than in the same time span of 2018. He said these were preliminary figures which still need to be adjusted, especially that the procurement is not over yet.
“We have three large grape buying companies. They have already purchased 90 thousand tons of grapes. The average price for grapes of cognac varieties is 150-155 drams per kilo. It increased compared to last year, when the price fluctuated around 140 -150 drams," Avanesyan said. ($1 - 476.68 dram). --0—
