Wizz Air Celebrates First Flights at New Base in Yerevan

YEREVAN, October 1, /ARKA/. Wizz Air, EMEA’s most Environmental Sustainability Airline Group of the Year in partnership with “Armenia” International Airports”, today officially opened its new base in Zvartnots Airport in Yerevan following the first Naples–Yerevan flight.

The ceremony was attended by local crew Roland Tischner, Managing Director of Wizz Air Hungary, Marcelo Wende, Director of “Armenia” International Airports”, as well as Gevorg Papoyan, Minister of Economy of Armenia and Head of the Tourism Committee, Lusine Gevorgyan.

Two modern Airbus A321neo aircraft will be stationed at Yerevan starting from today and will allow Wizz Air to introduce eight new direct routes to Europe for Armenians: Prague, Hamburg, Paphos, Paris, Naples, Bari, Bucharest, and Memmingen.

The airline will also increase frequency on the Dortmund route to four flights per week. Additionally, starting from September 30, 2025, Wizz Air has also launched direct flights from Gyumri’s Shirak Airport to Larnaca, Republic of Cyprus.

In total, the airline plan to carry more than 1.2 million passengers to and from Yerevan this year. Ticket prices start from as low as 9000 AMD and are available for purchase both on our official website and through the mobile app.

Following the opening of its new base, Wizz Air has welcomed 50 professionals to its team in Armenia, including pilots and cabin crew, and plans to continue hiring new staff. The airline holds regular open days for those aspiring to a career in aviation and offers the Wizz Air Pilot Academy (WAPA) program, which will help new pilots to learn how to operate commercial aircraft.

Yerevan has become the 34th base in Wizz Air’s network. Since its first flight in 2020 to the country, the airline has carried over 2.6 million passengers and currently operates 16 routes to 9 countries with 2 based aircraft.
