Zvartnots airport without taxis: not a single company applies for license

YEREVAN, February 22. /ARKA/. According to Armenia's Ministry of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure, no company providing cab services has applied for a license to operate at Zvartnots airport.

In January 2022, the Armenian National Assembly approved a bill establishing licensing rules for cab companies that wish to provide services within airports. In particular, companies must pay an annual fee of 200 thousand drams.

Deputy Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure Armen Simonyan told a sitting of the parliamentary committee on economic affairs today that no taxi company has applied for a license at the moment.

"The ministry is discussing with various organizations the issue of providing cab services as part of the requirement of the law. But at the moment there are no applications for a license," he said.

When asked about the reason, the deputy minister did not give a specific answer, but said that some companies have shown interest, but there have been no concrete steps to obtain licenses.

Meanwhile, citizens arriving at Yerevan's Zvartnots international airport are met by private cab drivers offering their services. ($1 - 391.68 drams). --0--
