Armenian Premier Urges Buyers to Demand Receipts

YEREVAN, September 16. /ARKA/. On Thursday, Armenian Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan, speaking at a governmental meeting, addressed government members and ordinary people urging them to demand receipts in doing their shopping.

“Tax administration improvement needs joint efforts. That is why if we attach importance to introduction of cash registers in shops to see the real trade turnover for a right taxation, we must demand receipts”, he said.

Sargsyan said that government members must start breaking the mould from themselves and members of their families. Otherwise, he thinks, the rules confirmed by the law will produce no results.

The premier said that not only Armenia, but also developed European countries attach importance to tax administration improvement.

“More than that – many countries’ citizens are obliged by the law to demand receipts. If after shopping no receipts are found at buyers, great fines are levied on them”, Sargsyan added.

He also stressed that the Government can’t raise pensions and social benefits if fails to improve tax administration.

“We must acknowledge that every untaken receipt means not raised pensions and benefits and unimplemented social programs. That is why I want you to set a good example and appeal to citizens for support”, Sargsyan said addressing members of Government.

On August 21, Armenian National Assembly amended the law on trade and services. The amended law makes installation of cash registers binding in trade pavilions of area greater than seven square meters in Yerevan and ten in provinces.

This demand also applies to fairs for September 1. Businessmen are strongly opposed to that. --0—
