YEREVAN, September 8, /ARKA/. Some 14,523 Armenian holiday-makers have traveled this year by train to Batumi, the capital of Georgia's autonomous region of Ajaria, a popular holiday destination for Armenians, the press service of the South Caucasian Railway (formerly Armenian Railways) company said to ARKA.

The railway link between the Armenian capital and the Georgian resort town on the Black Sea coast reopened in 2006 after 14 years of halt. The train from Yerevan makes stops in Gyumri, Vanadzor and Sanahin stations in Armenia before crossing the border into Georgia.

Comfortable trains with double and four-passenger compartments are running between Yerevan and Batumi from June 15 to September 15.

The South Caucasian Railways was placed under the concessional management of Russian Railways company for a term of 30 years. The agreement can be prolonged for another 10 years given the accord of both parties. M.M. -0-
