YEREVAN, December 14, /ARKA/. Armenia’s national gas operator ArmRosgazprom (ARG) said Russia has temporarily halted gas supplies to Armenia ‘in order to eliminate some problems on the pipeline.’
According to Russian news agencies, an explosive device was found near a pipeline in Russian Ingushetia. Exports via Russian North Ossetia and Ingushetia were stopped and would not resume until the device was defused, news agencies said.
Gas supplies to Armenia were halted on December 13, 9 pm, a statement on ARG website said.
ARG said gas supplies to households will not be affected as it has enough gas in underground storage facilities.
ARG was established in 1997. Eighty percent of its shares are owned by Russian Gazprom, the rest by Armenian government. Armenia receives some two billion cubic meters of gas a year from Russia via Georgia. -0-
